Well, I've used the connection for a while and on the verge of a radical change in my lifeline (THE INTERNET CONNECTION). So thought I'll look back on the past few months with my beloved connection (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
In-terms of speed...I was neither complaining nor really happy. The connection was serving the purpose for the most of the lifetime, but nothing fancy. I would have liked it to be a bit more speedy during the morning hours of week days, but I rarely stay home on weekdays in the morning. Weekends was a complete disaster though, speeds drop to about less than 10kBps. Still, at most nights I get a good speed of about 40-50kBps.
This is a bit strange though, as in the morning is weekdays, there should be minimum congestion. This is what I've seen with Mobitel HSDPA connections. But in Dialog HomeNet, it is quite the opposite. Probably because, Dialog has their corporate client base connected via WiMax
In-terms of cost.... I think at the current rates, the Dialog HomeNet is ridicules. SLT is offering ADSL at 1600/= Mobitel is offering a good HSDPA connection of 2Gb for 900/=. (and thats with a nominal speed of 1Mbps) Even Dialog themselves are offering a 5GB campus package (which isn't very hard to get even if you haven't seen a university) for about 1600/=. BUT with all this in the market, Dialog HomeNet is still at 2587.50Rs. Now that's STUPID. Hopefully Dialog will understand this and decrease the tariffs soon, but they'll be a be too late by then....
As for the service offered....it sucks. I remember calling a customer care guy sometime back to figure-out why I got a 5175/= bill the very first month, and this guy wasted about 45 minutes of my (very valuable :) time telling me "that it is like that and I just have to admit that" since I demanded to know why exactly it is like that, he put me through to a senior executive who took about 2 minutes to clear out the situation to me. PATHETIC. But I guess the customer care at even Mobitel is like that, and even worse in SLT
NOW..... I'm going to switch to a simpler PLAN. I have several options at hand.
1.) Dialog HSDPA campus package
2.) Mobitel HSDPA
3.) Airtell HSDPA
4.) SLT ADSL
5.) Lankabell WiMax
I'm weighing my options these days... soon I'll come out with a comparison and a new connection........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, A timely topic I must say.
And I would recommend SLT ADSL. I might be biased(also may be going Kade) on this due to the fact that I've had a connection for a long time, and I lack the experience of having any other connections, but I have few facts to back my decision.
The first and the foremost advantage of the SLT connection is I get a real IP, I know that with NAT, and PAT it's nothing to exaggerate, but it's quite fascinating for me even if it's dynamic.
Using this, most of the time I login to my home machine when I'm not at home, to check the status of downloads or to queue some more.
I know you can to the same thing without the real IP, using Logmein, teamviewer, etc. none of those programs can actually turn on your PC when it's shutdown.
Next good thing about having a real IP is when downloading tracked torrents, FYI all the major Torrent trackers are now starting to convert from "Freeleech" to "tracked". in order to counterfeit leeches who don't seed. they do this by placing a unique tracker signature every one of the torrents, this code reflects your userID so the amount that you download and upload is constantly monitored, IF the ratio of download(MB)/upload(MB) goes below .25, you get banned from the tracker. For this code to work correcly you need to have a single inbound port open to your PC and that should be routeable from the internet.
One other advantage other advantaged of the ADSL connection is you can cover your home with Wifi with a single device and its relatively inexpensive than other options you have.(you may need an awful lot of money to do it with HSDPA:) ).
And I know the speed is important and ones not satisfied and want more, but the amount that I can download is more important in my case, and 50-55 KBps is not bad, as I can download loads of movies and TV series. So 512 is an acceptable since it's Unlimited at that speed...........
As a final note, incase your going for the 500 package, remember that their billing system is full of bugs. (Guess who did the software ;)
Hint:- it starts with M.. )
tks,
